Recently Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya confirmed that even he was not sure of Nadal’s decision to play singles in his last Olympics.
In a video circulating on social media, Rafael Nadal can be seen practicing with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz for the doubles event on the clay courts of Roland Garros on Wednesday, ahead of the Olympics scheduled to start on July 27th.
However, Nadal had wrapped a bandage around his thigh, which suggests he may pull out of the singles event. Before training with Alcaraz, Nadal did not appear on court to practice with 2024 French Open finalist Alexander Zverev. Nadal’s coach, Carlos Moya, later confirmed that Nadal suffered a setback, leading to a rest day. Moya also admitted uncertainty about Nadal’s decision to participate in singles at his last Olympics.
“It was a setback and we decided that today Rafa would rest and not train to recover. We are going to give ourselves 48 hours; we have to wait, but at this point, I can’t guarantee that Nadal will be fit to play singles,” Carlos Moya told Radioestadio Noche.
If Nadal does participate in singles, he is set to face Marton Fucsovics in the first round on Sunday. Should he advance, he could potentially meet Novak Djokovic, who will be competing against Matt Ebden in the first round.
