Novak Djokovic also expressed excitement about the possibility of facing Rafael Nadal in the second round of the Paris Olympics.
The 2024 Paris Olympics draws are out, and an exciting one has been released for the tennis world. Novak Djokovic will feature in the top half of the draw, and joining him there will be his all-time rival Rafael Nadal.
After the release of the draw, Djokovic was called in for an interview where he dropped a huge retirement hint. While discussing his rivals Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray potentially calling it quits, the Serbian acknowledged that his own time is nearing the end. However, he expressed happiness that the sport is in great hands with the younger generation.
Andy Murray has already declared the Olympics as his final tournament of the year and will play only doubles, not being completely ready to play singles. Alongside him, Rafael Nadal has hinted at retiring a few months after the Olympics. This leaves Novak Djokovic wondering if he, too, will need to join them in retirement soon.
I am aware that an era with Nadal and Murray’s retirements after the Games is ending. I think my career is also coming to an end, but I believe there are and there will be tennis players who can carry the weight of being the best.
Novak Djokovic said in an interview after the draw-release
Nonetheless, the Serbian is confident that other tennis players can carry on what they have been doing for more than two decades. With a whole new generation of players, the sport has become significantly more challenging and the future much more exciting.
