“I simply wanted more privacy” – Novak Djokovic on his decision to avoid the Olympic Village in Paris after deciding to live the experience in Tokyo

Novak Djokovic arrives at the Paris Olympics with aspirations of adding a gold medal to his already impressive collection. While the World No. 2 has amassed a record 24 Grand Slam titles throughout his career, he has only secured a bronze medal at the Olympic Games.

The seasoned champion has chosen not to stay in the Olympic Village for the Paris 2024 Games. Serbian team officials have confirmed that Djokovic has arranged his own accommodation for the duration of the tournament.

In a recent press conference, the Serbian star explained his decision, emphasizing his need for privacy during the competition.

“I simply wanted to have more privacy, more peace and somehow focus on my routine and preparation for the tournament, which is of course the highest priority.”

The 37-year old reflected on his stay at the Olympic village at the 2020 Tokyo Games:

“I decided to stay at the Olympic Village in Tokyo, I might have… one or two nights before the start of the tournament, but I also stayed somewhere else for the tournament because this one, somehow I feel that it is more correct for me and that it is better for me and for my preparations.

Novak Djokovic secured his sole Olympic medal at the 2008 Beijing Games, where he triumphed over James Blake to win the bronze.
