Casper Ruud received nice gesture from Novak Djokovic after meniscus tear Roland Garros withdrawal

Casper Ruud lost in the semifinals of the 2024 French Open to Alexander Zverev. Before that, he missed out on a reunion with Novak Djokovic, whom he famously defeated at the Monte-Carlo Masters, gaining revenge for previous losses.

This time, however, in the quarterfinals, it wasn’t to be, as Novak Djokovic suffered a meniscus tear that required surgery, forcing him to withdraw from the French Open. Despite this setback, Djokovic showed his class by texting Ruud with a classy gesture after his withdrawal.

The two-time Roland Garros finalist, Casper Ruud, said that Djokovic texted him when he decided not to play, lauding the 24-time Grand Slam champion as a great guy and role model. Ruud also wished Djokovic well in his recovery from the meniscus tear.

It is unknown as of yet how long Djokovic will be out. The surgery was successful, with Hamburg potentially set to see his return. However, his class is still evident in his withdrawal.“He texted me the other day and just informed that he wasn’t going to be able to play so that was a nice gesture and wished me good luck,” said Ruud to Eurosport. “And you know, he’s a great guy and role model.”
